Perpetual candidate Robert Francis “Beto” O’Rourke announced on Monday that he will make a run for Governor in the Lone Star State. The former Congressman, Senate candidate, and Democrat presidential candidate made his announcement in a video.
O’Rourke’s declaration could portend a match up between himself and incumbent Gov. Greg Abbott (R) who announced recently he is running for a third term.
In his announcement video, O’Rourke stated, “Together, we can push past the small and divisive politics that we see in Texas today — and get back to the big, bold vision that used to define Texas.”

One Trick Pony
In his announcement, O’Rourke put his focus on Republicans by talking about last winter’s electrical grid power failure during an ice storm that sent temperatures plummeting and left thousands without power for days.
What O’Rourke didn’t talk about is the thousands of illegal immigrants that continue to stream across the U.S. southern border, and how the Biden administration appears uninterested in stopping it.
Joanna Rodriguez, spokeswoman for the Republican Governors Association didn’t seem worried by O’Rourke’s entry into the race. “Texas voters have already rejected Beto O’Rourke for statewide office, and they’ll do so again now that they know just how radical he really is.”
Never before has somebody so mediocre thought so highly of themselves.

Crowded Primary Fields
Both the Democrat and Republican primary fields are filling up in Texas. O’Rourke has opponents that do not have a lot of name recognition and Gov. Abbott currently has two primary challengers. He’s being challenged by former Texas GOP Chairman Allen West and former State Senator Don Huffines.
However, O’Rourke has already gained a big endorsement from the Democrat Governors Association.
In a tweet, the Association stated, “[email protected] has been fighting for Texans for years, galvanizing citizens and fighting against the GOP’s outrageous voter suppression efforts and restrictions on reproductive rights. Now, we’re ready to help him become Texas’s next governor.”

Texans May Have Long Memories
More than a few Texans must be scratching their heads wondering how a guy like Beto O’Rourke would get any traction in a place like Texas.
Prior to O’Rourke’s announcement, the Abbott campaign put out a digital ad, the beginning of which showed a clip from O’Rourke’s failed presidential campaign where he talked about immigration and said that, “we don’t need any walls to solve a problem that we do not have.”
But what should be the icing on the cake for Texas voters is O’Rourke’s foolish statement during a 2019 Democratic presidential debate where he said, “Hell yes, we’re going to take your AR-15.”
According to a Fox News report, Texas has the most gun owners of any state in the nation. That could be problematic for O’Rourke.
David Carney, a political consultant for the Abbott campaign, predicted to Fox News that counting O’Rourke out would be detrimental to any Republican gubernatorial candidate. Even though O’Rourke’s views are seemingly out of touch with average Texans — think confiscating guns and being a staunch advocate for the new green deal.
Carney also said that O’Rourke will rake in large sums of money from other places across the country, a.k.a, Hollywood and Washington. “We tend to take him very seriously and deal with him.”
