HS Prannoy vs Angus Ng Ka Long
Prannoy has been in red-hot form as he started the year by making three back-to-back quarterfinal appearances at the Indian Open, Syed Modi International and the German Open. At the All England Championship, he faced first round defeat against Thailand’s Kunlavudt Vitidsarn. He came very close to winning his maiden title this year at the Swiss Open, but lost the final to Indonesia’s Jonatan Christie.
In the Thomas Cup, he displayed outstanding form by remaining unbeaten in the tournament and was one of the pillars behind India’s victory. He bowed out from the semifinals at the Indonesia Open and Malaysia Masters. At the Singapore Open and World Championships he reached the quarterfinals.
Meanwhile, Angus Ng Ka Long crashed out from the first round at German Open and then bowed out from the second round at the All England Championships. He made it to the quarterfinals at the Indonesian Masters. He was the runner-up at the Malaysia Masters and it is his best performance so far this year. He enters Japan Open after third round defeat at the World Championships.
This will be the 10th time both the players will be facing each other. They already met twice this year at the Indonesia Open and Malaysia Masters with Long winning the Malaysia Masters contest. Another tough fight is expected between the two players.

India’s Women’s doubles pair of Ashwini Bhat and Shikha Gautam will face South Korea’s Baek Ha Na and Lee Yu Lim in the first round of the Japan Open on Tuesday. The Indian duo’s beste performance this year is a semifinal finish at the Orleans Masters this year. They also reached the quarterfinal at the India Open.Much recently, they wee ousted from the second round at the World Championships.
Meanwhile the Korean pair is ranked 14th in the world and their best performance this year is a runner-up finish at the Korea Masters. They also reached the quarterfinal at the Thailand Open. At the recently concluded World Championships, they bowed out from the second round.
